SHERPA: A Spectrometer with High Energy Resolution and Polarisation Analysis

SHERPA is a proposed quasielastic neutron spectrometer with polarisation analysis, intended to replace the ageing Iris instrument at ISIS and muon source. In this paper we present concept of along Monte-Carlo simulations analysis possible location. We expect greatly increased count rate compared (expected from 49 660 × Iris) in unpolarised mode dedicated capabilities more modest increase (~5-70 Iris). This huge gain would be achieved combination three factors: modern guide high-m coating, prismatic effect larger solid angle coverage energy analyser. Such an first its kind has incredible potential revolutionise scattering technique through separation coherent incoherent contributions.
